Case Mods

Case Mod by http://www.mnpctech.com

The theme is based upon a 1972 Corvette Stingray. The front bezel is hand made from sheet metal and fiberglass. It’s modeled after a corvette “cowl induction” hood with removable hood pins. Beneath lies 2, makuni carb covers that look like minature 427-V8 air cleaners. The 5.25 bay cover is retractable. I “frankensteined” lift hinges I found at “Rockler” retail store for woodworking into the upper portion of bezel from an Addtronics Server tower.

The chassis was modified to accomondate

I mounted the Black Ice Extreme III in the top panel, so the dual 80mm exhaust fans help pull out warm air from drawn in from 3, 120s beneath the rad. I really wanted to jazz up the dual 80mm exhaust. I’ve seen people mount tail pipes on cases.. Since thats already been done, I designed this billet aluminum accent plate. The 80mm AOC fans have milled aluminum frames with plastic chrome blades. I hate the white colored hubs and know others feel the same, so I covered them with carbon fiber vinyl film …plays off the bezel trim as well. The front portion of the chassis is off-center. A blessing in some ways tho… Extra space to hide cables, add more switchs alongside 5.25 bay… even mount a 3.5 device vertically. but, if you wish to center a BixIII radiator in the top panel, measure twice..The initial layout I envisioned was mounting the radiator beneath the top panel, but I didn’t account for any space for the output line from the 5.25 bay resevoir. Theres only way to go from here, and thats up ^

FYI:

If youre ever on the fence about what case to buy for moddin, the AMS CF1009 remains my all time favorite. Its the most durable construction for an aluminum case I’ve seen to date. You can easily remove the 2 piece acrylic bezel and plate for cutting fan holes. LED and PWR/RESET buttons are screwed in versus glued. The HD cage is removable. You can modify it so you have, Front and Rear 120 fans. It’s painted aluminum, not anodized so less prep work painting. I would still chose this case over any Lian Li. It’s simplistic plain jane design makes a great canvas for mods. Excalibur Project by mnpctech.com

Case Mods

This is a completely custom made computer that has been assembled inside of a CritterTrail gerbil cage. The cage was cut, sanded, and painted to exact specifications for the parts, and 40+ hours have been put into its perfection. Built in January 2007, It has an MSI Socket 939 AMD K8N motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4GHz CPU, ATI Radeon X550 Video Card, Ultra V Series 500W Power Supply, 2GB Wintec Ampo DDR 400, a Maxtor 320GB IDE Hard Drive, a 3.5” SD/XD/CF/MMC/Pro-duo card reader, and a Mad Dog DVD burner.

Now on to the extras! This bad boy has four 80mm UV reactive green/blue case fans, Heat sinks for the RAM (ramsinks), a 12” dual UV cold cathode light, 12” blue cold cathode, 24” UV Green Round IDE cable, a modified five orange LED light array to display HD usage, as well as a blue lit power button (blue dome on front). The HDD LED array was modified from the bottom of a Universal Studios beer glass, and the power button was constructed from four blue LEDs and an on/off switch from a 1990 ATC computer. The processor fan, as well as the gerbil cage itself has been sprayed with a clear UV blue and green reactive spray paint! The blue cold cathode on the bottom radiates light and will light up an entire room from darkness. The UV fans on the lid even light up UV reactive items within 15 feet! Nothing in this case is usual, and it’s never been done before! The cooling is amazing for this computer, since the sides are completely open for air flow, and two fans push the air straight across the PC. The two fans in the lid act as blowhole fans and suck out any heat that may rise in the case.

The computer is actually pretty easy to open up, even though it doesn’t look like it. As you can see in the picture the computer is set up into three separate sections that are unattached to each other. The first part is the green underbody that has the motherboard, which is bolted down to the case to improve the stability, then all of the pci-e and pci cards are attached upright on motherboard. The second part, the middle, consists of the yellow wire cage that fits between the top and bottom. This has the hard drive mounted directly to the side of it lying in an upright position that screwed in with rubber grommet so there is no rattling or noise when the hard drive spins. On the other side there are two 80mm UV reactive LED fans, as well as a small door that can be opened to access the ram and CPU portion of the motherboard. Connecting the two sides is the yellow wire cage that was custom bent to fit a 3.5” and 5.25” drive bay. The third part of the pc, the top, consists of the power supply mounted to the roof. There are also two 80mm UV reactive LED fans that simply screw on to the lid

Unfortunately, This was the first case mod we ever did, and do not have any documentation of the mod in progress. Sorry.
