Case Mods
Nouveau Mod is a heavily carved wood shell assembled around an old Foxconn Diabolic case. The wood is Bubinga also known as “african rosewood”, that has been softly finished and sealed, but otherwise untreated. It features two stained glass windows mounted in the side panels, illuminated on the system board side by the internal LED fans and white CCFT tubes. On the opposite side of the case where the panel is backed by sheet metal, the side window is illuminated by three custom made LED color bars. A fourth LED bar is located behind a white glass insert below the drive bays.
A Sunbeam Rheobus fan controller was modified by replacing the dual-color LEDs with a red, green, blue, and white LED, one for each control. The fan controls now adjust the voltage level of that color LED in the bars, allowing you to dial-in any color back light behind the window. A Thermaltake Big Water SE kit was installed to cool the CPU, and creates a pleasant water gurgle effect that fits well with the very organic curves and dogwood blossom theme.

Case Fabrication
R2-SRV is a Mobile Gaming server that is built in the likeness of the Star Wars Hero, R2-D2. It is radio controlled (yep he can be driven around), and can serve a game on the move (where’s there WIFI connection).
The heart of R2-SRV is a VIA Epia MII 1200 Mini ITX mother board. IT runs a 1.2 Ghz VIA processor. The Rig Sports 2 Gb of Ram, 250Gb Seagate HDD, and a Netgear 802.11g Wireless NIC. The case was hand made and is a 1:1 scale model of R2-D2. I’ve added a few extra gadgets like a in dome web cam, and on board remote triggered sound effects. The current status is 95% done… With just a bit of rewiring (to allow the dome to do contentious rotations without breaking the wires that transfer power and data into the dome), and the addition of the last few hand made detail pieces. This should be completed in time for Showdown LAN, Indy 2007.
Keep an eye out for updates.
