Post 9 - Panel Detailing

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/4013/worklog/post-9-panel-detailing

It is time for some detailing. If you recall, the case has several large holes that connect the top compartemt to the lower portion of the case. To give the interior a cleaner look, I cut a piece of plexi to serve as the floor. A drill a few holes for the watercooling tubing as well as the video card power cables.

The exterior pieces I created needed to be painted, so here is a pic of the res cover, top vent, and IRONMAN text being primed and drying in the California sun.

I wanted to add details to the pieces to appear as though it was fastened to the case. For this task, I went down to the local craft store and bought a couple of bags of Wiggly Eyes.

The eyes worked great. They were attached using crazy glue, and then painted with Hammered Brozne to give the appearance of metal work. Here is a picture of the Front Panel Cover and the Side Panel res cover.

The case is getting close to being done. Still more to come.

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/4001/worklog/post-7-super-computer-parts

Befitting Tony Stark’s persona, I wanted this computer to be powered by the best and fastest parts around. So before we get to the end of this project, I wanted to show the super computing power that will be going to this case mod. So check out the hardware:

For the motherboard, I will be using NVIDIA’s latest board, the 790i Ultra:

I will be running NVIDIA's Quad SLI in this case mod. I have (2) BFG 9800 GX2.

As for memory, I will be using 2 GB of Crucial’s Ballistix DDR3 2000 (PC 16000)

I will be running Danger Den blocks and pumps. Here you can see the blocks, pumps, radiators, fluids, and fitting that is going to be installed.

Next post.. Water Cooling Installation :)

Post 6 - Monster Power and Radiator

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/4000/worklog/post-6-monster-power-and-radiator

To power this Super Hero Computer, requires super power. I am installing a Silverstone Decathalon 1200Watt PSU. This thing is HUGE. It’s a modder and overclocker dream PSU. It has enough power for 6 PCIe Power cables, as well as completely modular cables. The modular cables are very handy for cable management. Here is a picture of the PSU.

With two water cooling loops, I will be mounting one radiator on the bottom, and another one on top. I am using Black Ice Pro radiators, which are approx 1" thick. I have use BIX in the pass, and those things are very thick. To mount the radiator to the bottom of the case, I removed the Hard Drive cage, and use a 1" Right alum angle. I drill holes in the aluminum brackets to line up with the pre-existing holes.

You can see that the radiator fits perfectly in the bottom of the case.

To make sure there was enough air flow, I use two Silverstone 120mm which pushes over 100cfm each. This will keep the video card nice and cool during heavy gaming :)

Here is a picture of the opening on top the case for the radiator. As you can see there is very little room from the top of the case to the motherboard.

Here is a pic of the radiator installed. You can see there is barely space for the fan. I actually had to trim the motherboard tray slightly to fit the fan.

Here is another picture from above.

For the top radiator, I used 120 mm Yate Loon fans. These fans are only 20mm thick, compared to the traditional 120mm fans, which are 25mm. That 5 mm allows me to mount the fan on the bottom versus the top.

Ok.. that is it for this update.. till the next update.

Post 5 - Reservoir and Front Panel Work

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/3967/worklog/post-5-reservoir-and-front-panel-work

For this case mod, I will be running two different water-cooling loops, one for the processor, and one for the graphics card.

For the processor loop, I am using a cyldiner res from Mountain Mods that can be mounted in as 120mm fan hole. You can see I put 3 fittings on the res for inlet, outlet, and fill port.

I got rid of all the CD Bay covers and completely redesigned the front of the case based on IRON MAN’s Chest Device.

For the video card water cooling loop, I am using a 15” long reservoir from Danger Den. This thing is a beast!!

To follow the color scheme of the front panel, I created resovoir bracket by sandwhiching orange acrylic between two pieces of smoke gray acrylic

Here is a pic of the Bracket and the Resovoir.

Here it is sitting in the case

More updates to come :)

Post 4 - Panel work

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/3960/worklog/post-4-panel-work

With the IROM MAN Mask created in the previous update, it is time to start working on the side panels. To protect the panels from scuffs and scratches, they were both completely covered with masking tape.

Instead of cutting the main case window in a perfect square, I decided to make it slightly skewed like they eyelet in IRON MAN’s mask.

To give the window extra depth, I cut another pieces of plexiglass, which was slightly shifted.

Toward the front of the main window, two smaller windows were cut and framed with acrylic. This will server as windows to see the hard drives.

The large opening on the bottom will house a long cylinder reservoir. I wanted to make this window look industrial. To achieve this, I cut a large frame from ¼” black acrylic, then use a heat gun to bend plexi to form half circles. I then cut mesh and glue it to the structure. Here are some pictures of the progress:

Here are pics of both side panel after the initial cuttings and layout.

Still more work to do :D

Post 1 - The Start

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/3873/worklog/post-1-start

Hey folks,Here is the first update. Not very exciting, but wanted to get the ball rolling. For this case modding project, I wanted to go “BIG, BAD, & BEAUTIFUL!!!”. I had the perfect case for the IRONMAN theme, SilverStone’s TJ07 in silver. Here are some pictures of the case before the modding is started:For this mod, I wanted to focus on the exterior of the case, and not the structural frame. I decided to paint the frame a nice semi flat black. The get thing started, the frame was completely disssblemed After the frame was taken apart, it was sanded and primed, then several coat of semi flat black was applied. Once the parts was dried and ready to handle, I reassembled the case to make sure everything fit and look right. The frame assembly is just temporary. This now allows me to check the properly layout of components and parts. Once the measurements are done, the case will be back in pieces again for more modding.Stay tuned for the next project update.- Ton

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/3940/worklog/post-3-iron-man-mask

I wanted to get into character with the comic and movie. I decided that I should also try to build my own Iron Man mask. I do not have metal working skills, but it was truly a fun project. So here goes.I first got a piece of alum from a previous project and cut it to size. Afterwards, I rounded the top and gave it a nice bend to form an arch. With needle nose pliers, I began to bend the edges to form peaks, this is commonly referred to as “Tucking”. After I made the tucks, I started hammering the tucks to shrink the metal to form the curve. After I got the right shape, I applied some masking tape and drew the locations where the eyes and mouth should be. After I was happy with the location, I used a dremel to cut out the area. To give the mask some depth, I cut out acrylic insets for the eyes. It is hard to see in the picture, but will be noticeable when painted. To give the appearance of welding lines, I used a chaulking gun and applied a nice bead of liquid nails. After it has dried and been painted, it will look just like weld lines.

http://www.modshop.net/users/titon/rig/3939/worklog/post-2-exhaust-vents

Hey folks, here is a little update. To follow the Mark 1 theme, I will be modifying and adding various elements to the outside of the “Look”.This case will run two water-cooling loops with Danger Den blocks. One of the radiators will be mounted on the existing hole on top of the case. To give it the industrial look, I cut several pieces of acrylic and bent them with a heat gun. This gave the case some nice vents to direct the hot exhaust. I also cut a few extra vents for the bottom of the case, which are not shown here.
