This is my custom mech case that I decided to call Atlas. It is not supposed to resemble a “mech warrior” Atlas. It’s an inside joke because i was all over the map looking for parts and ideas.
That being said, let me tell you a little about it.
I started this mod because I have always been fastinated with Mech’s and I noticed a lack of mech mods on the net (like none) so i decided to build one.
I didn’t really have an ultimate design in mind i just started building the mech as tightly aroung the components as i could to keep the size down.
It’s made from oak veneer that i had laying around after fixing a window in my house. let’s see…bonfire or …mech…o.k. mech.
A word of caution. use grain filler on oak if you decide to paint it. It will take you forever to fill the grain with primer.
For the paint job I was looking for a design that said “Yeah my camo glows but I am too deadly to care if you see me!” so i found some cool pictures of a species of African dart frogs that sported the green and black. Yep their camo said it all.
The black is Krylon semi-flat spray and the green is an automotive acrylic enamel with a flattener added to it that I made at work. The inside is coated with krylon glow in the dark paint that looks awesome with UV angle mods on 2 – 120mm fans. Glows green with the lights on then for about 1/2 hour with the system turned off.
The legs and guns are poseable. The legs have 3 articulations (hips, knees, ankles), and the guns just 1 for up and down.
I decided to mount the power supply below the motherboard because it actually made more sense to me as far as heat dissapation. Behind each dragon grill I have room for two hdds that are cooled by an 80mm fan with a custom cut vent in the back. I have an 80mm fan blowing into the power supply area to help keep temps down. There is a 120mm fan on top that blows directly on video, sound, etc. The optical drive sits directly below the power supply. When the drives open it looks like it’s sticking his tounge out at you.
I custom bent a piece of plexiglass for the hood. Everything is on rails for easy removal.Motherboard, power supply, and Hdds all can be removed in minutes, and if you need to change a card the lid opens up for easy access.
Here’s my specs for this rig;
MSI K8N Neo4 motherboard
AMD 3500+
Titan Vanessa L-type cooler with 120 mm angel mod ccfl
1.5 GB RAM
4-250 GB HDD’s
GeForce 7600 GS
Creative Sound Blaster X-fi
MSI Theater 550 pro
Lightscribe DVD burner
Antec Neo 480 power supply
