New Accessory for the mod

It kind of goes with the whole ticked off, avenging woman theme of the project. PMSers of the world, unite! Now to see what else I can come up with. ;P

It is Complete!

It has been quite the wild ride with this project. Learned a number of things including the right tool for the right job is essential. Also, if your Dremel is heating up, give it a rest or it may take one for you. ;P

The system will be getting water cooling soon and an install of a brand new copy of Vista Ultimate 64-bit to take advantage of all that wonderful Crucial Ballistix Red ram.

Hope you like the mod and perhaps decide to investigate the story of Ana Ishikawa, known as Shi.

ACK!

Good lord… we’re under the gun for the deadline tonight and what happens… Dremel burnout. Yep, that ugly electronic smell, no more cutting, followed by a quick grab to unplug the infernal thing. Well, guess this old girl got a strong lesson in proper tools for the job (tool newb here and don’t have many.).

After a trip to a local home improvement store, just arrived home with a couple tools that will hopefully make a difference. My credit card should recover sometime during the next administration.  Besides the obvious frustration and pain (drugs and sharp things don’t mix), cheer me on as I will do my very best to submit on time. Even if I cannot, I love this case as my first full mod and the new computer it gives me will be awesome. Much was learned along the way along and I had fun, which is what counts for me.

Don’t worry, I’ve not given up, just giving a status update. Thanks for your support!

Modding On

With deadline looming closer, the modding has stepped up. Since there isn’t enough time for a proper leak test, for purposes of this contest, the rig will be air cooled. I have a 9600 GT and a cooler on hand for the CPU.

Progress on the window, which is now installed, the modified Zalman fan controller is complete and fans installed in the case. Polishing the screw heads took a while with the Dremel! Found overall having a Dremel Scroll Station would have made a huge difference in both time spent and wear and tear on my hands. On my list of impossible dreams now. ;P

Oh and speaking of impossible dreams, I got an accidental sponsor! Was looking to purchase the cool new Crucial Red Ballistix Tracer ram for this rig and ended up with this wonderful ram in exchange for acknowledgements. Crucial ram rocks and this ram is gorgeous lit up and fast as heck.

More to show later tonight and tomorrow. Good luck to the rest of the contestants as well.

Progress!

Yes! Actually some progress on the mod this weekend. First, thought I’d take a quick shot of my workspace. Fans, pump wires, switches and leds sleeved; Test fit with 80mm fan, hexx mesh and u-channel; Panels masked and marked for drilling and cutting.
